RMH Posy Day started in 1937 as "Grannies Day" with a tea party and concert held in the hospital's outpatient hall for patients who were grandmothers.
The Melbourne Ladies' Flower Mission, which had been active in the city since at least 1890, organised with local florists for all attending to be presented with a bunch of violets and a sprig of rosemary.
These bunches of flowers, sometimes accompanied by gifts of cigarettes and candy, continued to be given to patients that were grandmothers, then in 1947 grandfathers were included and, finally, in 2000 Posy Day was opened to all RMH patients.

Memories of RMH from a recent donor to the RMGNA
The RMGNA is committed to advancing the nursing profession and want to help members with their professional development. Successful applicants will receive up to $500 (co-funded with the RMH Foundation).
Can I just check , because the messaging says ALL nurses , but even new posting has Graduates in the name. Is this association open to ALL nurses at RMH even if they came from outside and weren't grads here?
Yes, RMGNA is for ALL past & present RMH nurses, no matter where they trained. We did start life as an association for nurses trained at the RMH, hence the name, but that training finished in the early 1990s. We are currently seeking legal assistance with changing our name to the Royal Melbourne Nurses Association to better reflect who we are now but that is going to be an expensive & long process! Please consider becoming a member; we need new ideas, enthusiasm & forward looking thinking to survive & thrive.
